Missing You

On a much lighter note than yesterday...

I miss Buffy.

I only started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer while it was in its first season. The name always kept me away even after I had heard that it was a good show. I had caught snippets here and there but never really kept watching. But then, one day while flipping channels, I caught the beginning of an episode where Buffy finds her mother dead on the couch.

I couldn't stop watching what would turn out the be easily the best episode of television that I saw that year and ranks in my favourite of all time. After that, I couldn't get enough. I rented the seasons I had missed and caught every week.

It was remarkably well written. Each year had an overarching story behind it that would wrap up at the end of the season (unlike Lost (or Twin Peaks) that continue with the same mysteries and never really resolve a thing). The dialogue was great and the ideas were always interesting (LOVE the musical episode - brilliant). And things did not always end well for the main characters - when Tara got shot through the chest I could barely breathe from the utter shock).

But Buffy and the Scoobies are gone. Gone and I have yet to find anything that gives me the same pleasure as those 60 minutes a week.

Ah, I love that episode "The Body" so much saddness in there. Buffy really wans't ready to be "growed up" then. Joss Whedon is one of the best writers out there so yeah...

I recommend you watch some of Angel: The Series (Angel got his own spin off after all), and it's qtuie good. It deals more with "adulthood" than Buffy does as it's not focusing on the pangs of adolescence.

I miss Buffy. It was such a great show. And Angel was too, though it ran five seasons it ends kinda incomplete...but that's supposed to be a metaphor for life or something. problems don't end and all that.

Also, omg! I was so sad about Tara...but it takes a daring group of writers to kill of such a beloved character. I think it lent a gravity to the episode...

It was certainly in a class of its own. For me the best episode was the three-part finale to season 6, where Willow went uber-powerful-psycho-dyke-witch, hell-bent on destroying the universe. I still cry every time I watch Xander saving her.

Have you seen Firefly and/or Serenity Rye? That was Joss' short-lived space and western cross-genre show and the surprisingly successful movie that picked up and concluded where the show left off. Definitely worth a look.

Really enjoyed Angel as well, and while it had its moments of brilliance, it pales next to my Buffy!

Firefly was just getting interesting when it was cancelled.

My twin and I are Buffy fanatics. She dressed up as Buffy one year for a Halloween costume party and when she showed up, the hostess did not notice her costume. The hostess said that she could lend her one. My twin said, "I'm Buffy, the vampire slayer." Unfortunately, the hostess' son was dressed as a vampire. the year they killed off Buffy as a season ender I had to console her all summer that they would bring Buffy back. Yeah, we got it bad too. It is still on in reruns every day here in the US.

A fan of Buffy! Love it - but I loved the spinoff Angel even more. Nothing can replace it but Supernatural is a pretty good show too - thought a tad more serious with none of the charming irreverence.

I think so many people wrote this show off based solely on the title. What a shame.

My personal favorite episode was "HUSH."
Those creepy Gentlemen were some of the best creations Joss ever came up with.

More in the sci-fi genre but equally smart and funny (I think) was FARSCAPE. And really, how can anything with Ben Browder be bad...?

I love Buffy too! One of those shows which defined a generation, my generation. A show I can watch time and again for its inventiveness and its character portrayal and its storylines. I loved the musical episode, and cried when Buffy died in season 5 and when Tara died in season 6.

The best show ever!

Another Buffy Fan logging in.
When you get some cash, buy the DVDs. Angel, too.
They're worth it.
I just finished watching all 5 seasons of Angel, and now have re-started watching Buffy Season 1 again. Brilliant.
They may be gone, but I get to watch 'em any time I want!
Cheers to your fun Blog!
